Why do you need a food distribution system?

Food distribution has been a severe circumstance for society since ancient times. How do you get food from its source to the people who need it without losing food to spoilage or carelessness? Food distribution comprises various companies, organizations, and programs that collect food from producers, store it in warehouses, and then disperse it to manufacturers, grocery stores, restaurants, cafeterias, government aid programs, etc.

Some Food distributors in Saudi Arabia use warehouses to store food for short periods, and others may only use refrigerated trucks to transport goods directly to foodservice operators. The timeframe and method of transport depend entirely on the kind of food being spread.

The goal of food distribution is not only to connect the producers, such as farmers and fishers, to consumers but also to allocate the food accordingly. Challenges arise in deciding how the food will be distributed among the people, who have the power of distribution, and what strategies should be used for distribution. The establishment of markets in which producers directly sell their food to consumers is the most traditional distribution method. However, due to many cases of inefficiency, food is usually transported to a central location and then distributed to outer cities and villages.

Food systems include the nuts and bolts of what it takes to move food from point A to point B along a supply chain. From labor and transportation to policies and climate, many factors influence how food gets from the farm to your fork. We can also see food systems running at local, regional, national, or international levels. Production, processing, distribution, and consumption - food systems require many steps, each with various inputs and outputs. Food systems can be extraordinarily complex, requiring solid multidisciplinary collaboration, big data and resources, and different analytical approaches.
